I would like to draw the attention of the members of Circle Bakote community towards a serious crime of cheating/copying/ plagiarism in exams. I posted a few lines a couple of times before on the Circle Bakote web site under the comments sections of main news or articles. Unfortunately the intensity of the crime is so high and wide spread in our educational institutions that my few lines against this crime could not touch the heart of any body. A few other members of the community also raised this issue and posted their comments on the site but all in vain.
I humbly request Naveed, a profound journalist in the region, to use his pen against this crime. If a few lines written by the pen of a journalist could eliminate a crime in the society then that is the real success. I appeal, in general, to the whole community of Circle Bakote “Let us raise our voice together to discourage and eliminate the curse of cheating in exams in the area.” This is the right time to raise this issue to the community as the results are out from all the boards of education and we will reiterate it during the season of exams.
Some of the problems we can solve them in-house ourselves without blaming the political leaders of the area and the government as a whole. Shall we ask them to come and stop us from cheating and plagiarism? I was excited to see the recent A+ results of Circle Bakote Students who appeared in the exam under Federal and Rawalpindi Boards of Education. They really deserve for our appreciation. On the other hand I was shocked to hear that many of our schools in Circle Bakote encourage the students for cheating and facilitate them with its sources. I was told that some of the students in a school (without disclosing the name of this school where cheating is not allowed at all) are asking for school leaving certificates in order to enable them get admission in another school in the area where cheating is encouraged and facilitated to achieve good results. If this is the case, what we are aiming at? We are really damaging our society by producing garbage. By copying and cheating one can pass the exam and get good grades but will not be capable enough to contribute something to the society and community. I appeal the nation builders please don’t spoil our young generation. Let me tell you the truth, this is the age of competition and the world is moving so fast that if we could not move with its pace we will be thrown out of the race.
We need another Rasheed Ahmed (Rahemahullahu), a strong and intellectual Education Administrator in the area, for rectification of the existing education system contaminated with cheating and plagiarism. May Allah rest his soul in peace and grant him a place in Jannah. His contribution to the field of education would be remembered for centuries.
We have a strong demand of colleges and desperate need of a university in Circle Bakote. May our hope come true but at the same time we have to discourage and eliminate the curse of cheating from our existing educational institutions. Let us help the nation builders rectify the system and build a strong education delivery mechanism in the area before demanding a college or a university. Believe me we can do that.
I am sure our youth has a great potential but this is our responsibility to explore it and guide them in the right direction. Let them use their brain/intellect to explore the world of knowledge and learn the tools of technological and socio-economic development.
With my humble regards,
Fazal ur-Rehman, Aliabad

Thank you for this article Mr. Fazal -ur-Rehman. I go to school here in CANADA and our teachers never want us to cheat. If there are people in Pakistan who do encourage cheating it is very bad. They don’t deserve the responsibility of teaching the kids and children of tomorrow. One of those kids might be the next Einstein coming up with His/Her own theory. The teachers need to understand that.

I would like to thank Fazal-ur-Rehman Bhai, on writing an important Article for the young generation of circle bakote. We should encourage the students for hard working not for cheating. We want to prevent our young generation from this curse so that we can see these hard working students in good positions. No doubt journalist like Naveed bai can play a good role by using his pen against cheating/coping and plagiarism in the exam. Due to plagiarism the competition system dies. If we have to see many students having good grads in the same class then we have to remove this curse. It is the big reason that due to cheating, our students can’t pass the admission test in good colleges and universities. No doubt our students have potentials, if we guide them in the positive direction then they will show us good results.
I hope that we would see the competition in our education system rather than only pass in the examination by using any illegal means.

This is an alarming issue raised by the author of this article. We should stop these practices during the exams. Passing these exams with cheating will result in garbage production as described nicely by the author. I strongly condemn it.. I take this opportunity to strongly suggest that let us have debates on the topic on school levels and ask students to participate in this competition. The winner students could be given prizes. This is one way of discouraging this poison. Anyway I strongly condemn the cheating and plagiarism in any type of exam.

Early morning weekend web surfing and googling landed me on this interesting website belonging to small community circle somewhere in Abotabad. What amazed me is that within a country of almost now (170 Million Masha Allah) only a small community has started raising their concern about this serious issue (Cheating in exams) which, otherwise should have been a matter of national concern. I applaud Mr. Fazal-ur-rehman’s for this initiative.
To address any social/moral problem and eradicate it , we have to look at its root cause. Unfortunately this evil (Cheating/Plagiarism) is made up of amalgam of several social and national corrupted matters of our society and finding a single root cause of it at this juncture seems to be impossible. At the same time we cannot close our eyes like pigeons for ever as its ripples are now being felt along the entire boundaries of academic system of this multiple problems torn nation. Few words of my comments here will not benefit or change the gravity of the situation but still I like to add few words according to my understanding to address this issue.
Being in academics myself for several years I have learnt that domestic environment of a child/student plays an important role in her/his academic life span. Parents being the role model children follow them for each and every thing in life either being religious or social matters. First stage of learning starts from lap of mother and within the boundaries of ones home. My understanding is that cheating is more a moral issue rather than a crime and this can only be addressed at first stage from the parents and at our homes. As we teach our children about good and bad things in life why can’t it be taught that cheating in exam is a theft ?. if we teach little brains from childhood they will definitely take advice of their parents as they do it for other things.
Last but not least, I request parents of this lively community to come forward and become a role model for the rest of the nation. Each and every parent should take it as their moral/social responsibility to teach their children to avoid this moral crime. I am sure that within very short period of time we will see its results otherwise no magic wand is available yet to rectify this problem.

I would like to say shabaash to my younger brother Mr. Fazal (also known as professor),who is studying in CANADA for his PhD, to draw the attention of the whole society including teachers ,parents and students from Circle Bakote on the subject important issue. I also appreciate the students of Circle Bakote for getting their A PLUS results in exams from Abbottabad, Rawalpindi and federal boards.Mr.Rasheed Ahmed(late) Ex-Education Administrator in same area was really an example for our teachers. Mr.Shoukat Janjua (Aliabad),Mr.Ameen Abbasi(Moolia) and so many hidden behind the scene are still playing their positive role to improve the education system in the area. This is the best way to discourage cheating in exams and by improving knowledge- based ,conceptual educational system.I hope they will also be succeeded to convince the students, parents and teachers of the area to discourage the cheating(an easy job),which disables the nation to face the future challenges and to promote the knowledge- oriented education(a hard job) enables our new generation to stand with the technological world of today.I feel proud to be a member of a family totally involved in education and we hereby offer our educational services for educational system improvement in the area along with those, who are already involved in improving education.I am confident that by providing best teachers/educators and training of existing teachers in the private as well as public schools in the area, we will explore the golden and silver talents from the most prettiest valleys, mountains and rocks of the Circle Bakote. We sent a science teacher from our family to be cooked roasted in the oven of Aliabad to become as heera(Diamond) teacher for science subjects by passing test trial and pressure of the society on non-scientific subjects.Remember Naveed! Education system improvement is our major task and challenge.we can win the hearts of the people like sir syyed-e-aliabad, Meer-e-karwaan,Mr.Abdur.Rehman(Late) by sustaining people pressure and test trial.I hope the said science teacher will not try to sit in irrelevant subjects examination and follow Meer-e-Karwaan and search the same among new generation to lead the society on all walk of life.. important issue raised,….cheating in exams not only damages the confidence and hardwork of intelligent students when they see others getting marks without hardwork. It is a corruption at the grass root level and must be sorted out.

No doubt that an impartial competition gives us a sound environment to study and work to improve our lives and impetus our society advanced. Based on this reason, the student working hard by his own hand and head should be awarded by the society and admired by the people, especially in the modern society, more attention is given to the honesty, the student who pass the exam by cheating/coping and plagiarism should be looked down and smear his own credit statement. It is the responsibility for the society to build up a complete, legal and impartial system to judge the behavior of people.
I strongly condemn on this illegal behavior.

I do agree with the authors compliments that we should not supports those people who use unfair means to get pass the exams. These kinds of issues specially come from rulers areas and government must finish the feudal system from the ruler areas and must spread awareness among the people and to do all kinds of these steps. We should focus on the justice because justice is root cause to eliminate all kinds of unfairness either it is social or educational. By taking into account justice, we can say that our educational system also become ideal then only intelligent and hardworking student can come up.

This is a very important problem to be solved by the whole community, which,if not solved coud get out of hand. This problem shuld be raised strongly to hit the target for its severeness. There are a lot of intelligent people in our community (Circle bakote) that do not cheat, work hard, and get good grades. There are others who are complete opposites of these hard working students. No one knows what the lazy, and lethargic student’s future will be. If they cheat, when they grow up they won’t have a good job because there won’t be any shortcuts in life anymore. They will be corrupted for the rest of their lives. Let us all eradicate it from its root

“The article points out the negative trend developing in our society i.e.
cheating. It is also sad to know that some schools are intentionally
promoting such practices to get good grades in exams. The problem needs to be addressed and resolved. A solution may be that journalists from various areas of media should write articles in newspapers so that society may become aware of this curse. If the mater is not resolved soon, it will ruin our society. Let us build a society of hope, peace and honesty.”

I was deeply study the article and views of Dr. Fazal-ur-Rehman sb who raise the voice for our attention toward a serious concern of our education behavior in “Circle Bakote” same issue raised by few readers earlier but did not get sufficient response due to lack of awareness.
We must thanks to author who identified and raised the issue in forum and contributors who support the issue and a special thanks to Mr. Naveed who provide the opportunity to discuss the local issue for future improvement and planning.
Absolutely cheating/copying/ plagiarism in exams is a terrible crime and can get a person in severe trouble in his practical life, Cheating is not only physically but morally wrong. It is considered lying which can only lead to unacceptable behavior. When someone decides to cheat in exam, they are, in essence, taking the easy way out instead of doing the proper work needed to earn high marks. Skills that should have been learned earlier in school cannot easily be simulated when applied to real world situations. When a person decides to cheat and is able get away with it, they believe cheating is the only way to reach their primary objective and, thus, becomes habit forming.
Imagine this scenario: a student is going to school just for fun instead of severe studying because they know that by cheating, they can get a better mark on their exam without having to take the time to study. The student aces their test and decides that they have nothing to worry about anymore. Unfortunately, for those who make it through the exam without the required knowledge have short changed their future and have put themselves at a disadvantage with their peers.
In the long term the student who cheated on their exam faces the trouble of executing those skills later in life and cannot contribute something to the society and community.
So what massage and training we are providing to our future builders. This is the time to think and solve the issue before it goes out of our control.
Let us join hands together for a cause and strongly condemn the awful act of cheating/copying/ plagiarism in exams and elements that providing opportunities for. Identify and discover all black sheep in public for a social boycott
No doubt our region produced many honest teachers and brilliant students who are contributing to the country and society by serving in government or public sector and we have to follow the same trend in future for the betterment of the region.

This is very shameful act. Unfortnately education is now a business. Mostly private schools do this to attract more students and earn more. Ideally, education shouldn’t be for getting job. If you go to schools just to get good job, then you will not learn much even if you pass exams without cheating. Then you will memorize things like parrots, and that is bad as well. For this particular situation government should devise some test like GAT and weigthtage should be given to that and not to the marks secured in scool exams

Instead of thinking of how to stop students from cheating, why not think of how to help them cope with their studies in such a way that they do not even need to cheat. I am sure most of us must have been through a time in life where we had to cheat, not because we loved to but because our teachers did not pay enough attention to us.

Students are so careless about their studies and exams that one guy in GHS bakote told me that he failed because of pure bad luck as he brought physics book in chemistry paper!!!
Students do not even realize the crime they are committing because they do not consider this as crime and think that this is ok because their teachers and parents both allow and appreciate this act. Teachers are not doing any justice with the noble job and allow students to cheat hoping that by doing this they might produce a satisfactory result for school and on the other hand parents also never stop children from this act and to avoid shame & embarrassment of being failed in exams they also encourage cheating.
I thank fazal ur rehman for highlighting this issue and I hope that other people will also do their best to highlight this and try to convince student/parent and most importantly teachers that this is a CRIME and just like any other sin or crime this is also condemnable and should be avoided.

I would like to say thanks to my uncle Mr.Fazal-ur-Rehman for debating on such a serious crime which is spreading so rapidly.Actually cheating is like a corruption and it will affect the nation as a termite. Allah always bless those people who work hard and there is always difficulty for those who pass the exams with cheating.Such people who cheat in exams and when their is a conceptual paper and out of course then their is a difficulty for those who cheat and people who work hard for their exams are successfully passed. For controlling this crime serious precautions should be taken by teachers and examiners otherwise this cheating termite would destroy the whole nation and we may be wiped out of the race. When we will raise our hands and voice we might be able to fight against this serious crime and there should be a transparent system of checking the students and we must arrange a conference to pay attention and to take serious measures to control this evil and we can control this evil only when teachers and examiners are strict and they check the students strictly and when they are caught they should not be given paper back and their paper should be cancelled so that students should be carefull next time. When we will raise voice against this crime by whole community then serious issues may be taken and if we now promise to God Almighty that we never cheat and then we can built Circle Bakote to high level regarding education. Then Allah can bless us.

Ali Hamza I agrree with you. I have a suggestion here. Why don’t we ask the teachers and educationist to change the education delivery system. Instead of rattalization we should pay attention on conceptual education and assign projects to students. We should have excellent science teachers in schools and we should establishe excellent science and computer labs at least in high scools of the area. This would increase the interest of students in their study and consequently the poison of cheating and plagiarism will go to an end. If the governament is not taking interest we the community can contribute to establish these tools and sources of better education delivery system. My another suggestion would be to build a strong working relations with the teachers and other experts in the area. Highly qualified people in any field can contribute and support in this direction.

In its essence cheating and copying in exams should be considered like a crime and dealt with the same procedures of punishment as any other street crime. It’s a curse that provides short term advantages to youngsters with a long term disparity. It should be highly appreciated if it could be eradicated from a society with indoctrination of the new generation. And if it is done by improvising (scarcely seen) moral obligations then there could be no way better than this. Then the issue of plagiarism would automatically be solved as it comes at later stages (at College/University levels).

it’s definitely necessary to eliminate the crime of cheating in exams. honesty is one of the basic properties one needs to have as a student or merely a humanbeing. The ultimate goal of the education is to make the student’s possess good quality, fine character, profound knowledge and comprehensive ability. Geting a high score in exams can only reflect one side of the ability the students get, so we should not give it too much attention.

First of all, I would like to thank our respected teacher Fazl-ur-Rehman for raising this serious issue in our academia. We must raise our strong voice and exert utmost effort to eliminate this crime from our educational institutions and from the society as a whole. As a general principle, cheating is not allowed in any aspect of life. Therefore, cheating and plagiarism in exams cannot be justified under any pretext. The evil consequences of this grievous crime are destroying our nation. It urges the spread of falsehood and forms an attack against the truth. Our youngsters today who adopt this unfair means for gaining degrees or certificates without being really qualified for them will have unjustified access to posts and honours tomorrow. The end results are nothing but corrupting our systems and infrastructures for gaining their own benefits.
To solve this problem at the very moment is of utmost importance. Awareness against this severe crime must be built in the society in all levels. The importance of academic integrity should be brought in focus in forms of conferences, seminars, and writings by reputed journalists. Issues of academic honesty and penalty due to any violation need to be discussed in class to motivate students to stop this evil practice. Last but not the least, we all should play our role in whatever position we are to get rid of this moral crime. If we are sincere in our efforts with due time Allah will bring the results.

Nowadays the phenomenon of cheating in exams is not uncommon anymore. It`s really an serious problem that we should pay attention to. It`s not a question only about the irrational desire of high score, but also the character of integrity of a human being. Only with integrity can a man really grasp the knowledge and technology that he learns, can a society keep stable and can a countery achieve the development in a health way. We should arouse the public`s attention about this issue and the educational mechanism is really in urgent. We believe this problem will be well solved with our unremitting efforts.

It’s fabulous! Kudus to author for lighting the candle, credit to (circle bakote team) for proving opportunity; and appreciation to society for participating…
Obviously, it’s a paradigm shift; bringing change in society and putting it in frame of core values. Core values stem rightly from the parents, teachers, and the society we live in.
Where does plagiarism/cheating /copying/lifting fall in our core values? Is it a passion or integrity? Off course not…
Lastly, if we will not change our lens and will not respect the core values; we may be headed to the place where we started.

We should stand against all the crimes happening in the society. We have to accept the good things from everywhere and adopt them. If you see any fault in the society then you should say something about that, which is the second kind of IMAN. If we want to see our circle bakote as a educated areas of Pakistan then we have to remove such type of crimes from our society. A million of thanks to Br. Fazal-ur-Rehman for pondering against Cheating and plagiarism, it reminded me of a query I have faced many times in my life. The consequences of cheating in exam are violating ethic and laws by our students who are suppose to be called once as intellectual properties of a nation. It is a serious crime as a form of academic dishonesty. I think significant changes in educational system could lead as driving force to remove this curse from society. If teachers could play active role against cheating by explaining the consequences of Cheating and plagiarism by including it in course outlines rather than imposing traditional punishment or encourage and facilitate cheating to achieve good results as mentioned in this article. Moreover, teachers can provide clear information about kind of materials or assistance that is permitted in examination; actively proctor in exams; arrange separate places in the exam hall to keep the backpack, cell etc; modify the process of delivering lecture and assessment techniques of exam, arrange gallery sitting or sit at different disks from where students normally sit.
However, we need to find out the reason behind of it, why students are cheating in exam? Why students facing difficulties to prepare their lesion? Teachers need to motivate and pushes there students to became active in order to achieve their goals. We have to be serious from today rather than waiting for another Rasheed Ahmed (Rahemahullahu) by following his steps.

After reading what our lovely brother (may Allaah bless him) has written on this critical issue of cheating and plagiarism. I can’t but agree with him that, it is an evil thing that needs to be eradicated from all societies. Firstly, cheating will never sow any good for a society that condones it rather it will destroy not only the people who perpetrate it but also people who don’t speak against it. Let us imagine a student cheats his way to the medical school and graduates as a ‘cheater’ doctor. Can you imagine what evil and destruction this doctor will bring to his society? Imagine him prescribing medicine for stomach ache for flu or a more critical situation where he doesn’t know what to do when a patient his in life threatening condition. Secondly, as muslims we are to encourage good and forbid evil. So how do we allow this evil in our society. We should as a matter of urgency speak, write, and work against cheating in our society.

Excellent piece of mind-awakening article. Being affiliated to educational institutions throughout my life, especially abroad, I feel that my very proud country has got this severe cancer in the form of cheating. Also at the same time ‘we have to do something’ in our own capacity to get rid of this evil thing from our society. Wherever we are and in whatever capacity we are in, propagate this issue of plagiarism, that one is caught at one time in this life for cheating, in any way. One who cheats will not be confident, will shy away from taking challenges, will face extreme difficulty in the future and many more. It’s always good to learn the lesson on time; even it takes a little bit more work. I always see like this, a kindergarten child will be making mistakes in ABC, but if that child do not memorize ABC in time and reaches grade 3. Then if someone ask him ABC and he makes mistakes, then its really embarrassment.
Every single ‘human being’ (not even Muslim) will 100% agree with the contents of this article. The question is, why we do dishonesty? It’s always very easy to put blame on someone, like society, government, circumstances etc. Whether these arguments are valid? Absolutely not. One is responsible for ones own deeds. We should remember and teach our kids, efforts are in our hands but the results are always in the hand of Allah.

First of all i would like to thank respected sir Dr. Fazal-ur-Rehman, sir you are always there whenever we need you, for our assistance . i salute you that for away from country you are not unaware of the problems faced to us and our society.
Well what i think is that cheating is the most destructive problem sustained in our educational system. One can get good marks and grades by doing so but when he has to compete with the other students of country for further admission in universities, he lacks there and fails to even pass the entry tests.
I was shocked to hear this thing from student who appeared in intermediate exam without any preparation and got reasonably good marks. On asking he told me that he had given some amount of 15,000 to invigilators and they provided him any thing they can do. Now i am a bit confused who should be blamed for this TEACHERS who forget that it is the profession of Prophets or STUDENTS who forget that our Prophet (P.B.U.H) said “ILAM MOMIN KI GHUM SHUDA MIRAS HY ” and they are polluting this system of Ummat.
I guess we have discussed enough about this Evil now it is the time to go ahead with the suggestions to get rid of this.
1) Awareness should be created amongst students about this evil.
2) Educational societies like “ALIABAD EDUCATION FOUNDATION” which was established by Ch. Abdul Rehman(Late) and Dr. Fazal-ur-Rehman and now it is working under the supervision of Sir Akhtar, should be established and these societies should reform our educational system.
3) Meetings with Teachers, Parents and Students should be carried out in order to extract the reason behind it that why our young generation is preferring to cheat than to work hard.
4) And before start of exams society members should visit institutions and meet with newly appointed invigilators.
5) There should be check and balance on teachers even and parents should take interest as we never visit the schools to know about the progress of our students.
Now we have to work on practical lines.
I thank you all.

This is very shameful. I was study the article, of Dr. Fazal-ur-Rehman. . We should stop these practices during the exams. Passing these exams with cheating will result in garbage production as described nicely by the author. I strongly condemn it. Teachers are not doing any justice with the noble job and allow students to cheat hoping that by doing this they might produce a satisfactory result for school and on the other hand parents also never stop children from this act and to avoid shame & embarrassment of being failed in exams they also encourage cheating.
[Reply]
its a very important issue which is discussed. why these activities are perform in exams. because the majority of invigilators are sold before exams and they provides all the helping keys to students. unfortunately those students who able to get the positions in exams they disqualify and those students who never ever able to get positions in exams but they get. we cant blame our student who pass the exam due to cheating and the invigilator who provides all helping material to student and we also cant blame our govt because our government has some parliamentarians who have their Fake Degree. ” TO PHIR GALTI KIS KI HAY?” just think about it. and i am very thankfull to my respectable FAZAL BHAI who had discussed such a main heart touching topic. and inshallah i hope FAZAL BHAI next time you should to write a topic of understand quran class. Its a very serious and an important issue. First of all i want to say that why such type of these disgusting things perform in examination hall? I think majority of invigilator,s are sold before exams. They provides all helping material to students which is helps to solve the paper. Are they sincere with their jobs? not absolutely not . Its HARAM in islasm. Those students who able to get positions in exams but they cant. And those students who not able to get position in exam unfortunately they get position due to cheating. Who is the responsible? The invigilator who provides all material student or the student who cheat or our govt who does not action on this serious matter. how we blame our govt? because our govt has some leaders and some parliamentarians who have their FAKE DEGREES. just think about it that who is the responsible? We must take all necessary steps to crackdown the crime and promote a healthy behavior among our students and teachers.

Many thanks to our dear brother Fazal-ur-Rehman, may Allah increase him in knowledge and wisdom. The point he has raised is a serious problem that has become endemic within the academy and it is rising at an alarming rate on a daily basis. Decision of the people in the academia (students and teachers) to make ethical choices benefits the society at large as it creates trust, honesty, respect, responsibility, and fairness.
The effect of cheating and plagiarism is long lasting on the student who cheats and the society that condole it. Ability of a student to engage in critical thinking and adhere to the principle of originality gets diminished when such student cuts corners by getting involved in cheating and plagiarism. Once a student is not creative, there will be no genuine learning. Such student will subsequently be deprived of any sense of accomplishment and such sense comes along with irresponsible manner that might set a life-long pattern that will culminate into complete failure of such student in the future. The duty of the academic society includes the construction of knowledge and that requires making ethical choices by avoiding “diseases” like cheating and plagiarism. Without the ability to construct knowledge, the academia will not be able to solve society problems like cancer cure, better bridges etc.
Solving this problem requires all hands to be on deck. Serious awareness must be created on this issue and parents must teach their wards the value of academic integrity at home. It is imperative for the people in the academic environment to imbibe actions and practices that will eradicate the problem so as to provide legitimacy to the pursuit of all scholars.

I am shocked by this act of shamefulness and is been encouraged in our country, which has produced the people of pride and dignity in the past. Everybody desires to have higher grades, but in an honest way. Those who copy other student’s work are hurting themselves and the society in the long run. Their creativity level drops every time they copy and cheat. They should not be encouraged. The educational system meant to help students learn new things and proceed to carry them on into their professional careers. Nobody wants an employee who can’t pull his own weight, and that is all they are going to get from these people that think cutting corners is all right. It is our responsibility as a community member to stop this CRIME. If not, in the end they will CURSE themselves, their teachers, and the system. It’s time to think and fix the system NOW!

With my little understanding, I like to mention that we have become very far from our actual goal of getting education. Our educated people are getting knowledge on different aspects or on a very specific field, but this education is not helping us to develop qualities (e.g. honesty, modesty, etc.) inside us. As a result when the educated people are dominating the society, the corruptions and other bad things are spreading in a great extend. I highly support the author’s concern. In addition with that our education system should be designed in such a way which help us to understand the purpose of educating ourselves and also help us to bring all the good qualities into ourselves.

I am very thankful to Prof. Dr. Fazal ur Rehman for highlighting a very important issue i.e, cheating and plagiarism in examination. Cheating and plagiarism in examination play a role for destroying the whole life and future of the students. Students, during the study and also as well as in SSC & HSSC examinations held especially under BISE have been fully supported by their heads of institutions and also from invagilators by getting huge money and cell”s card from the poor students. Cheating must damage and also destroy the seeking and skill power of our students ad education , which both things are the back bone of a nation as well as a country. As cheating and pagiarism are disliked by developed country. Thanks Naveed Irshad (Aliabad) Hostel # 1, Government Post Graduate College#1, Abbottabad.

ASA,
I am very astonished by the number of comments that were written on “Cheating and Plagiarism in Exams: a Curse”. Looking at all these comments tells me that a certain amount of awareness has been made in the Circle Bakote community. Now we should take a step forward and eliminate and destroy the cheating process before it gets out of hands, Just like Global Warming. The recent flood catastrophe in Pakistan is unfortunately a consequence of that Global Warming. Cheating could get to be like that. We didn’t try to save the earth and now it is too late. We can NOT let that happen with cheating. We should come together and, as I said, eliminate the cheating process. The author has already suggested a model “Aliabad Education Foundation (ALEF): A Model for Other Areas of Circle Bakote” for the remedy of this problem. You can squish cheating like a bug now or demolish it like a building later. Your choice.

First of all I would like to thanks Mr.Fazal-ur-Rehman for writing this article.Commenting on the cheating issue, it is supposed to be a very false activity because those student does cheating they took an advantage over honest and hardworking students by false means. We should discourage this habit and should produce a right strategy in examination. As well as those students who indulge in cheating should be treated strictly and they should be punished and should be not promoted to the next next class.

Plagiarism and cheating are grave concerns highlighted by Mr. Fazal-ur-Rehman. Plagiarism and cheating have existed as long as schools have. The issue of cheating in schools is more prevalent and relevant than ever in today’s culture. Polls show that 80% of high school students admit to having cheated. Unfortunately, technology has improved the means of cheating. But, it has also improved the means of detecting it. Even in the North America it is not uncommon. There are many studies o this issue.
Do you know?
57% of high school students say they didn’t think copying a few sentences without proper
credit, sharing test answers, or getting answers from someone who had taken the test was
cheating (Rutgers University Study, 2001)
53% of high school students say that cheating is “no big deal”
98% say the have let others copy their work
34% said their parents never talked to them about cheating
(Josephson’s Institute of Ethics, 2000)
I am not saying that it is norm of the society but it is present all times and all over the world. Question is why student cheat? There are many reasons students cheat because there are other students who cheat and get away with it; competition and the pressure to get good grades and get into good schools; teacher apathy; pressure from parents to get good grades; laziness; don’t understand the material; tests are too hard and given unfairly. My suggestion is that there should be strict plagiarism policy and severe punishments for those involved for violating the policy. Articles like this give awareness but there should be more to do!

Thank you Fazal ur Rehman for realizing the most alarming issue as if one can get good marks by copying, how he,ll get knowledge to fulfill the requirement of the day, therefore, I strongly regret this kind of action..

Plagiarism and cheating in exams is one of the serious crimes which entered in the root level of education in third world countries. Many thanks to Prof. Fazal-ur Rehman for introducing the above constructive and fruitful article awakening the community people of Circle Bakote, a local community of Aliabad, Pakistan, and as well as fighting against such kind of social crimes.
I believe that a moral teacher can change the society. If a teacher strictly maintain his duty, teaches the full courses of a particular subject, take care the students properly & give moral advices in the class, the pupil could able to understand about their own duty and would be attentive in their study.
There is no doubt that all students are very potential and meritorious. Unfortunately we could not discover their intellectual capability. When a student does not get interest into their studies, he is finding the alternative way how to pass the exam and finally doing plagiarism and cheating in exams. So I strongly recommend to train up the mentors who can play vital role to stop all crimes in an educational institute. Besides, the responsibility of parents, the community people including respective leaders and senior citizens are not negligible. They should come forward to prevent the worst situation of the society.
After all we need a social revolution against academic crimes like plagiarism and cheating in exams to produce knowledgeable smart guys from our community. The initiative of Prof. Rehman will be successful only when the people from all professionals move forward and take their own responsibility.
May ALLAH accept our good effort and remove all crimes from our society.

I felt overwhelmed by the article that the schools are encouraging students to cheat! So by whom they are taught? – by cheaters (??) and not by the teachers!! I am sorry for this harsh comment but are those people really deserve the respect? What they are doing is really really bad and it is going to destroy the mind set of those poor students for their entire life and they are our future! I hope that a tough disciplinary action will be taken to stop this plagiarism. And thanks to the author of this article to point out this.

Thank you so much for drawing to one of the most challenging problems in our society, cheating and plagiarism in exams: Cheating and plagiarism are behavior whose consequences could lead to a failure of society. Therefore we need to find a solution for this “virus”. I call it a virus because it can spread rapidly among students and infect even those students who never tried to cheat before. They may begin to cheat when realize their classmates do not work hard yet they receive a better grade without any problem since the teacher and school do not take a serious concerted action to stop this virus. This can spread easily not just within classrooms and school but also throughout society at large.
The sooner we stop this virus from spreading among our students the less damage to society. Serous penalties should be imposed to stop plagiarism and cheating.

Thank for highlighting such an alarming issue like cheating and plagiarism in exam.I personally believe it is curse in our society. The techers in the school should encourage their students to become hard working and industrious. They should inspire their students to refrain from doing such an act like copying and cheating in exam.We should create awareness among our younger generation about such an offense and raise our voice regarding this issue.Otherwise our next generation will thrown away from the race of competitive world.

I would like to say that those who cheat in exams in early age lay a strong foundation of cheating the society for rest of the life except those who repent and seek refugue from Allah from this evil. Unfortunately, our society if full of cheaters in all disciplines and every matter of life. But we have to play our role and we sholud take courage to play a positive role in the society.

cheating in exam is not good for the society as well as the students themslves. School can not have a judgement on students’learning ability and technique ability according to students’grades . So teachers can not adjuge the teaching scheme. Of course teaching quality can not be improved . As a result, students’ability can not be improved.
But actually,in my opinion, there are reasons for this phenomena.in our society today, grades is everything. If you can not pass the exam, you will not have an access to college or you can not get a a graduation certificate,of course, most people will think that you are not qualified.
In an sentence, cheating in exams is a big social problem.

Cheating and plagiarism have been long standing problems world-wide. Long before the internet, Fraternities and sororities often exchanged term papers etc. with other schools, where they were unlikely to get caught. The point was, however, it was harder to do than it is now. I might also add that if you were caught the punishment was pretty dramatic.

Regarding you extreme attention against cheating/plagiarism, I would like to say that we should try to educate our community to be aware from the curse of cheating to eliminate this source of unfair mean not only teachers but students also All we know that the man is crown creation he has an ability to do right or wrong. One can save him self from this curse if he has sense of ability but at the same time if the student don’t have any habit to work hard them they surely use unfair means to meat their required target. Being a responsible person we should try to meat the target with full of devotion and dedication

Indeed, Brother Fazal ur Rehman has raised an excellent issue and I believe it is one of the root cause of our falling society. This virus of cheating and plagiarism is not just limited to exams and to one area but it has been spread in all of our society and the country. Because of this issue, students do not respect teachers, teachers do not serve honestly, and when this generation will come to take part in country’s development, they will fail.
We all know that no one will come to stop this cheating and plagiarism in exams by rules and regulations. It is our responsibility to motivate not only our students but also students’ parents and teachers. Such students when become doctors, will be unable to help sick people. Unfortunately, there is no character development of our students especially in KG and primary classes, students do memorize lot of study related stuff (basic English, basic maths, etc), but it is rare we teach them honesty, speaking truth, obeying rules, discipline etc.
People should come forward to address this issue in newspapers, in TV channels, in seminars at schools and universities, etc.

I had a chance to know the author while he is studying for his PhD at University of Manitoba, Canada and I remember him saying that “I make sure that all my horses are tied before I sleep”. I believe that the author sincere writing to shed the light on the problem and his strong attitude in following up will help to reach the solution and applying it.
The author mentioned one of the influential tools for change which is the press and I would add another tool which is the mosque. I know that Pakistani people are religious by nature and the religious talk would have a significant effect in solving the problem. This talk should be directed to every one in the education system; teachers, students and their parents.
Allah blesses the author for raising the problem and supports him to follow the problem and solution. Ghareib

Pakistan international cricketer Nasir Jamshed has been arrested after being accused of cheating in a school exam.
The 20-year-old was one of three students who allegedly allowed a fourth to write answers for them in an English exam to graduate from secondary school.
Haider Ashraf, a senior police official in the eastern city of Lahore, said that Jamshed was caught “red-handed”.
A left-handed opening batsman, Jamshed has played 12 one-day internationals for his country and averages 35.30.
Jamshed, who was not amongst the 37 players awarded a central contract by the Pakistan Cricket Board in March, has since been released on bail.
Pakistan newspaper The News reports that the examination officers, who alerted police after discovering identical handwriting on four answer scripts, were unaware Jamshed was an international cricketer.
Jamshed made an impressive start to his international career, scoring a quickfire 61 on his debut against Zimbabwe in January 2008.
Unbeaten half-centuries against India and Bangladesh followed in July, but he has not represented his country since scoring a duck and one in his two innings against Sri Lanka in August.
